Rate My Singing is run by Bhuwan Shrestha, an individual, at Swoyambhu, Kathmandu 44600, Nepal. If you want to ask about anything here, write tobhuwanenoch@gmail.com.
This describes what the app actually does, field by field. Where something is stored only on your phone and never reaches us, it says so.
What we collect
Recordings
The audio you record and choose to post. Recordings you do not post stay on your device as drafts and are never uploaded. A posted recording is public: anyone using the app can play it.
Your account
A display name, and an email address from whichever sign-in you use (email and password, Google, or Apple). If you sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we only ever receive Apple’s relay address. Optionally a profile photo, a short bio, a voice type and favourite genres — all of which you choose to add and can remove.
Your age
We ask for your date of birth once, when you create an account. We use the date to check you are at least 13, and then we store only the year — not the full date. The year decides what kind of advertising you are shown.
Activity
The ratings and reviews you write, replies you post, how many times a song has been played, and counters like your credit balance. Ratings and reviews are public and show your display name.
Advertising and device data
Google AdMob serves the ads and receives device identifiers and approximate location derived from your IP address in the usual way for mobile advertising. If you are under 18 we tag every ad request for teen treatment, which restricts personalised advertising. In the UK and EEA you are asked for consent before the first ad request, and your answer is respected.
What stays on your phone
Your feed region filter and your saved drafts, including their audio, are stored on the device only. We never receive them.
What we do not collect
- Your location. The app has no location permission at all.
- Your contacts, photos library, or anything else you have not handed us.
- Payment details. Purchases go through Apple and Google; we receive only a confirmation that a purchase happened.
Why we hold each thing
- Recordings, ratings, reviews and replies — because they are the app. Posting them is the point.
- Account details — so people can tell whose take they are listening to, and so you can sign back in.
- Birth year — to keep under-13s off the service and to restrict advertising for under-18s.
- Credits and counters — to run the rate-to-post system that keeps new uploads from going unheard.
- Purchase records — to stop the same receipt being redeemed twice, and for accounting.
Automated analysis
If you choose to spend an analysis on one of your own takes, the audio is processed on our servers to measure pitch, vocal range, phrasing and vibrato. It is measurement, not identification: no voiceprint is built and the audio is not used to train anything. The resulting numbers are shown on the song.
Who else sees your data
- Other users — everything you post is public.
- Google Firebase — authentication, database, file storage and server functions. Data is stored in the
asia-south1region, in Mumbai, India, and may be accessed from elsewhere to operate the service. - Google AdMob — advertising.
- Apple and Google — sign-in and purchases.
We do not sell your data.
How long we keep it
Until you delete it. Delete a song and it goes, along with its audio and the reviews on it. Delete your account and everything above goes with it — see deleting your account. The one exception is the purchase record, which we keep with your name removed, because the transaction identifiers in it are what stop a receipt being redeemed twice.
Anonymous browsing sessions are cleaned up automatically after 30 days.
Your rights
You can see everything the app holds about you from your profile, edit it there, and delete all of it from Profile → settings → Delete account. If you are in the UK or EEA you also have the right to a copy of your data and to complain to your data protection authority; write to bhuwanenoch@gmail.com and we will help.
Children
The app is not for anyone under 13, and we do not knowingly keep accounts for them. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, write to bhuwanenoch@gmail.com and we will remove it.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect.
